Half my ageRe Half my age

You probably think I’m blind
The wrinkles hide my eyes
You’re looking at me sideways like I’m
An unwelcome surprise
I’m looking for the last half of a word that I began
That up and ran

Your sunglasses reflect
The symptoms of decay
I'm looking more and more like
My grandfather every day
But though I’m just as gray as gray can be
I still feel like me

Kid if I were half my age I'd fly away and not return
Kid if I were smart I’d say goodbye and let the future burn

I open up the door
The steps look awful tall
Why don’t I just go back inside
And to hell with 'em all
The little hand is crawling through its numbered arc
And it’s getting dark

Kid if I were half my age I'd fly away and not return
Kid if I were smart I’d say goodbye and let the future burn

I open up the door
The steps look awful tall
Maybe I’ll do cartwheels down ‘em
Maybe I’ll crawl
If anybody’s waiting, hell, just let ‘em wait
I’ll be a little late

Kid if I were half my age I'd fly away and not return
Kid if I were smart I’d say goodbye and let the future burn
